AI in Auto Repair: Helpful Tool, Not a Human Replacement

AI is everywhere these days. From chatbots to self-driving cars, it seems like every industry is jumping on the artificial intelligence train. Auto repair is no different. But at Harrell & Beverly, we believe technology should enhance what we do, not replace the people doing it.

What's Changing in the Industry?
The auto repair industry is beginning to use more AI behind the scenes. There are some cool AI-powered diagnostic tools, as well as helpful apps that “translate” technician notes and standardize communication or track repair trends. And we've found that some shops are even testing AI service advisors. That’s where we believe the slippery slope begins. You can’t automate trust. You can’t replace human care with code.
Where We Use AI in Auto Repair and Where We Don’t
We’re not anti-tech. We use AI in small but practical ways at Harrell & Beverly.
Our technicians sometimes use it to help write Digital Vehicle Inspection (DVI) reports in plain, simple language. That way, when you get your inspection results, the explanations are clear and professional. No jargon. No confusion. Just the facts you need to make an informed decision.
On the office side, we use AI to help review internal reports, spot patterns, and find ways to improve. It’s great for analyzing trends, but it doesn’t make decisions for us. That part is still up to the humans.
What we don’t do is use AI to replace conversations and relationships with our customers. You will always have the option to speak with a real person about your vehicle. We are here to talk about your car’s needs, your needs, and the options that make sense for you. We understand that being without your vehicle is a hassle, and we approach each situation with heart and compassion. No robot can replace that.
Technology With a Human Touch
We believe the best shops use technology to support their team, not distance themselves from customers. Our goal is to give you a better experience, not a colder one. You deserve face-to-face explanations, honest conversations, and a team that knows your name.
There may be AI in the background helping us stay organized. But front and center, you’ll always find real people who care.
Final Thoughts
AI can be a helpful tool, but it can’t replace empathy. It can’t listen the way a service advisor can. It doesn’t know how to ease someone’s concerns or advocate for their vehicle the way a trusted shop does.
At Harrell & Beverly, we’ll continue to embrace the right tools to serve you better. But the heart of what we do will always come down to real relationships and honest communication.
