Transmission Tune-Up Service
Your transmission works hard. It's responsible for keeping your vehicle shifting smoothly, transferring power from the engine to the wheels, and handling tons of internal heat and pressure. Over time, the transmission fluid that keeps everything cool and lubricated breaks down, just like engine oil does.
That’s where a Transmission Tune-Up (TTU) comes in.
Think of it as a spa day for your transmission. Except instead of cucumbers on the headlights, we’re using high-quality fluid, expert inspections, and real automotive know-how to keep your transmission healthy and happy.
What Our Service Includes
1. Road test before service
5. Install new filter and gasket
2. Under-vehicle inspection
6. Adjust shift linkage
3. Transmission pan inspection
7. Refill with proper fluid
4. Drain torque converter
8. Final road test and inspection
Why You Shouldn’t Skip It
You wouldn’t drive 50,000–100,000 miles without changing your engine oil and filter, right? (At least we hope not...) So why ignore your transmission?
Neglecting transmission fluid and filter service can lead to:
-
Overheating
-
Premature wear
-
Slipping gears
-
Expensive repairs or full replacement
Regular service helps prevent those issues, and keeps your car running better, longer.
Pro Tip from Harrell & Beverly
A well-maintained transmission can easily last over 150,000 miles. A neglected one? Not so much. Routine service is a small investment that can save you thousands down the road—and keep you from getting stuck on the side of it.
Signs Your Vehicle Needs Transmission Care
Taking care of your car's transmission can save you from costly repairs down the road. Here are some friendly reminders to help you spot potential issues early:
Warning Lights
The check engine light might signal a transmission issue. Bring your car to us, and we'll diagnose the problem accurately.
Unusual Sounds
Your transmission should operate quietly. If you hear clunks, whines, or hums, it's time for a professional inspection.
Leaks
Keep an eye out for red or pink fluid under your car. Transmission fluid is easy to spot and should never be ignored. Check fluid levels regularly, especially before long drives.
Odd Shifts and Vibrations
Trust your instincts. If your car feels shaky or shifts oddly, let us take a closer look to prevent bigger issues.
Don't wait to address these issues.
We can save you from costly transmission replacements or rebuilds by catching and fixing issues early on. Schedule an appointment for honest, reliable transmission care.
Transmission Repair FAQs
Do you rebuild transmissions in-house?
We no longer rebuild transmissions in-house—and honestly, that’s a good thing in today’s world. Modern transmissions are nothing like the simpler gearboxes of the ‘70s and ‘80s. Today’s units are incredibly advanced, with complex computer controls, internal sensors, multiple clutch packs, and precise calibration requirements.
That’s why we rely on professionally remanufactured or OEM transmissions from trusted suppliers. These units are rebuilt by facilities that specialize only in transmissions. They restore and upgrade components to meet or exceed OEM standards, using the latest tools, specs, and testing procedures. These units and our knowledge and expertise are a match made in heaven.
And here’s the best part. We are able to provide:
✅ Stronger warranties
✅ Proven reliability
✅ Faster turnaround time
✅ A more cost-effective solution than a custom rebuild
At Harrell & Beverly, our expertise is in the accurate diagnosis, removal, and precise installation of these advanced units. We make sure everything is programmed, calibrated, and test-driven to perfection, so your vehicle shifts like a dream.
Bottom line? You’re still getting top-tier transmission service, just with better parts, faster results, and fewer surprises.
What are the signs of a bad transmission?
Here are some of the most common red flags:
-
Slipping between gears
-
Rough or delayed shifting
-
Clunking or whining noises
-
Fluid leaks (usually red or brown)
-
Burning smells
-
Warning lights (like the check engine light)
-
Poor acceleration
If something feels off, don’t wait. It’s always easier (and cheaper!) to catch transmission issues early.
Can I get a transmission estimate over the phone?
We totally get why you'd ask, but unfortunately, no. Transmissions are complex systems, and symptoms can mean a range of issues. We need to physically inspect and test drive the vehicle to give an accurate diagnosis and estimate. Think of it like going to the doctor. You wouldn’t want a diagnosis over the phone without an exam, right? We believe in doing things right, not rushed.
What does “remanufactured transmission” mean?
A remanufactured transmission is a fully rebuilt unit that’s restored by a specialized facility, not just fixed, but brought back to like-new condition. It’s tested against factory standards, upgraded with newer components when available, and comes with a strong warranty. We prefer remanufactured units because they’re dependable, backed by industry support, and often last longer than in-house rebuilds.
How much does a transmission replacement usually cost?
Cost depends on the type of vehicle, transmission, and what’s wrong. We can't provide an accurate number until we’ve seen and tested your vehicle.
Do you work on all types of transmissions?
We service automatic, manual, and CVT transmissions for domestic and Asian vehicles.
How do I make sure my transmission lasts longer?
Glad you asked! Transmissions love a little TLC. Here’s how to help yours live a long, healthy life:
-
Get regular transmission fluid services (we can help with that!)
-
Don’t ignore small issues like rough shifting or delayed engagement
-
Avoid towing beyond your vehicle’s rated capacity
-
Make sure your cooling system is working properly
-
Be gentle with gear shifts (especially if you drive a manual)
What should I do if my car suddenly won’t shift or move?
First, don’t panic. If your car won’t go into gear or move, pull over safely and turn off the engine. Check for obvious fluid leaks under the car. Then call us—we’ll help you figure out next steps.
Towing may be needed, and we can arrange that. Once your car is with us, we’ll diagnose the problem and walk you through your options.
We have rebuilt many transmissions over the years. However, with changes in vehicle technology, it is far more beneficial to the you, with today's computer-driven vehicle, to consider a JASPER® remanufactured transmission. We will walk you through all the options available to you if your vehicle needs a new transmission.
We're a proud installer of Jasper Engines and Transmissions.
